Thor: Ragnorak

Credit: flickeringmyth.com
Thor: Ragnorak is completely different than all other Marvel films in the Avenger-related franchise. It's funny all the time, even when something terrible is happening. It's got crude humor for kids and adults, but mostly adults. It's very vibrant and colorful and it feels like its own separate Thor film. I liked the first Thor film, but not the second as much. This film is so fun, I like it better than the other Thor films. It's goofy and it works. I won't say it's better than Captain America: Civil War because it feels like it's in its own lane. The film starts off with Thor in a cage chained up and he's not worried. He just knows he has another quick battle to fight. When he returns home, he realizes Odin is really Loki, which I'm surprised it took that long and no one noticed.

If you've seen Lord of the Rings, you might remember that Gandalf just showed up, said everyone was in danger and sent the hobbits on a mission. The real Odin kind of does the same thing with Thor and Loki. He reveals things that sets them on a path and disappears like it's not my problem, so..... You also get to see Thor go through his biggest transformation. It's not just the hair that changes, it's also how he will have to choose what kind of leader he needs to be. Other major changes will occur as well and this will be a pretty cool thing to see.

Thor: Ragnorak has a couple of Earth scenes, but most things take place on other, very colorful planets. You'll get to see Thor and Loki act exactly like how brothers really act. You'll see Thor and Hulk fight and you'll even get to see Hulk show more emotion. Valkyrie has a quickly shown, sad background, but she eventually redeems herself. Hela is like an angrier Loki. She wants the throne and people to worship her but if they don't, she's okay with ending them. You'll see one long Dr. Strange scene and it's good. You'll also see the Collector's brother, who's behind Hulk and Thor fighting with his Contest of Champions.

It has some cool fight scenes with great music and they hint at what you may possibly see in Avengers. There are two end credit scenes. One is after the initial acting credits and one is at the very end of the credits. Heads up: the first credit tells you something, but it leaves you with so many questions and the credit at the very end is just something funny to see, but it won't tell you anything. I think you'll want to see this movie a few times because it's that good. I know I do. I definitely plan on buying this. See it as soon as possible!

HE DAO 2-IN-1 UV Black Light Combo Creative Stationary Invisible Ink Pen Highlighter

Yellow Highlighter
I bought this highlighter at a discount price to review and received a random color. It comes in 4 colors: yellow, purple, blue and red. It's small, so you can take it anywhere and the top snaps into place very tightly. I haven't had any problems with the ink leaking. If you're using regular paper, it's better if you write something than draw something because the more you push down on the paper, the more likely it'll tear.

Glowing in the dark
It is a bit costly, but what art supplies aren't? I don't draw as much as I used to, so this was more of a novelty item for me. I can definitely see drawing something and adding this cool highlight to it that you can only see with a black light. It's fun and mysterious. The only problem I had with this pen that can be bothersome is that the light is a little hard to control. You can push the light on, but you have to hold it, pushing it into the top. It's kind of hard to keep on.

Black Light
I will say it's still fun and a black light going in and out showing hidden messages for Halloween sounds awesome. It is an invisible ink highlighter and you don't get to choose the color, but the novelty of it hasn't worn off for me. Inhumans vs. The Gifted

Credit: Entertainment Weekly
I watched the first two episodes of Marvel Inhumans. It wasn't bad, but it feels like it's struggling to draw me in. It felt tame minus the initial scene of Black Bolt in bed with his wife, Medusa. There was even murder, but it didn't make a big impact. You didn't get to know one character and the other ones only Marvel died (they're alive).

Even with all the marketing to see it in theaters in IMAX, I forgot it was on Hulu two weeks later. When I watched it, I could see where most of the budget went. The clothes, hair and most of the special effects made them draw a plain-looking city, but it's also something that will never be explored in full, so it technically isn't supposed to matter.

The storyline feels like Shakespeare, which isn't bad, but I'm waiting on more action. The biggest problem I had was that it felt more like I was watching rich people adjust to being poor, instead of people with powers adjusting to being among humans. It's a classic story of betrayal.

Black Bolt is king and Medusa is queen. Anyone without powers works in the mines, except Black Bolt's brother, Maximus. Maximus convinces people that he should be king, everyone will be treated equally and they should go to Earth. When Maximus starts an uprising, Black Bolt and others escape to Earth. Black Bolt and his family must find each other and work together to go back home and stop Maximus.

Hopefully, the show will pick up. It's not the storyline, but the pacing is a little bit slow. I like to watch a season before I decide if a show is good or not, so I'll keep watching. It's not bad, it's just finding its footing.

I loved how gritty The Gifted feels. The mother thinks she knows her kids and she living life just fine. The father acts like he's helping mutants, but they're basically being put in jail. The daughter has been quietly living as a mutant and the brother is about to find out he is a mutant.

In a world where the X-men are nowhere to be found, mutants have to lay low and protect each other. A network of mutants try to save any mutant that the government is after. When the parents find out their children are mutants, they have no choice but to run and find the network of mutants.

I was interested and engaged. The pacing of the show and effects were great. I'm already waiting on the next episode. I liked that the daughter is protective of her brother, instead of being a standoffish teen. I also liked that I know the parents will have to learn to accept their children and help other mutants if they want to survive. I like both shows, but Inhumans makes me feel like I'm waiting on something, which I don't mind, I just hope it pays off.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle

Credit: Geekery

If you haven't seen Kingsman: The Secret Service (first film), go watch it immediately. There are a few things that you'll understand better if you watch the first film and it's also an awesome movie. I've heard some people say they didn't like this film as much as the first one because it felt like it went into Austin Powers territory. My thoughts are: why would that be a bad thing and the first film is also made that way. Austin Powers made a lot of money, changed up the spy genre and many people watched these films.

Kingsman 2 has changed some things up, but it has all of the same elements of the first film. It's funny, the action sequences are insane and over-the-top and *spoiler alert* Colin Firth eventually knows what he's doing again. This film brings some new players to the group and there are character flaws (what film doesn't have that, honestly?), but it carries itself well and I can't wait for the third film.

I don't like how useless and unnecessary the big villain is. Sorry, Poppy. No one was going to give in to her plans. It also felt like all female characters were in the background and come second to all men, but I never lost interest. I still rooted for Eggsy and Merlin and am now able to root for Ginger Ale. I also found Elton John hilarious and was a bit shocked he didn't just do a cameo. Go see it and judge for yourself, but I already know I'm going to buy it.

Train to Busan

Credit: pop.inquirer.net
This is a new staple added into a list of good zombie movies to watch. It's fun, fast and different. This man Seok-Woo (Gong Yoo) is so focused on his work that he neglects his daughter, even though he knows she's the best thing that could have ever happened to him. It's his daughter's birthday and all Soo-An (Kim So-Ahn) wants is to go visit her mother. Seok-Woo tells her that he can't take her right now to see her mother because he is so busy with work, but he tells her that he can take her another time. Soo-An tells her father that she is old enough to take the train by herself. Seok-Woo decides to take her by train to see her mother before going back to work for the rest of the day. It's just too bad there's an outbreak going on and an infected woman makes her way on the train.

As you can guess, the infected woman spreads the virus and a lot of people get bit, so they try to block off access to other parts of the train. The plan is to go to another station and find a safe zone to go to, but the infection has spread too quickly. There's also people who want to save themselves and don't care about putting other people in danger.

You have people that don't know each other band together and they don't fully know what's going on or what to do. Every step they take to try to get to safety is dangerous and some steps are dead ends. The infection spreads quick and the zombies run quicker. A balance to the madness is Seok-Woo and his little girl bonding. At the same time, they're spending time with a couple, Sang-Hwa and Sung Gyeong (Ma Dong-Seok and Jung Yu-mi), who's expecting a child. The men don't trust each other initially, but they have to learn to have each other's backs. There's also a whole baseball team and two elderly sisters, who look out for each other.

You get to see why people react the way they do to certain situations. It might even make you wonder how you would react. If you're looking for another good zombie movie with good pacing and lots of action, this is it. There is a tiny bit of a South Korean soap opera feel at the end, but it works and it's worth it. This movie is available on Netflix and rental services such as Google Play.

Insecure

Credit: HBO.com
Issa Rae, creator and star of Awkward Black Girl, created and starred in a new show for HBO called 'Insecure'. It's refreshing to see a show about people trying to make it in the real world from another perspective. There are shows like 'Girls', but even Lena Dunham admitted that she didn't know how to write a character from another race and write about their experiences. The problem with this is that we often go through the same experiences and that's a terribly lazy answer. Back to the show, Insecure is relatable to anyone who's wondering why their life is the way it is and later realizing it's probably better than what they're complaining about. It has serious tones and it is set in black neighborhoods, but it's also a refreshing comedy.

Issa Dee is a woman in her late 20's with a job, a boyfriend and an apartment. Her best friend, Molly Carter, is a woman with a career, a better apartment and no man in sight. They both think the other doesn't know how good they have it. They go through good times and bad, realizing too late that if they wanted change, they should have changed themselves a bit differently, but the lives they were living were not as bad as they were acting like it was.

Issa's loyal boyfriend, Lawrence, was having problems with his pride, but he was a loyal, caring and understanding man who needed a push in the right direction. Unfortunately, Issa was wondering what it would be like if she made it with her ex-boyfriend who ends up back into her life. Issa let's her life get into disarray at a time when she was about to live a very fulfilling life. Molly also had problems with serial dating and couldn't find a man to grow with. When she finally found a great man, she pushed him aside because he didn't go to college and had a regular job. He was sick of her games, so he kicked her to the curb.

This show also has moments where white people keep asking Issa everything to do with anything black and the show takes a comical approach to racial issues. This show deals with a lot of everyday things and it doesn't feel like it's only geared towards women or black people. It's just saying we go through the same things as everyone else in differing neighborhoods and/or social circles. The show is well-written with a great cast and backdrop. It makes you wonder where the second season will go and how long do you have to wait to get it.
